Hackett Memorial Trust Conference and Training Grants

 

The Hackett Memorial Trust Fund was established in 1963 in memory of Frederick Hackett, Member of Parliament. In 2005 the funds were transferred to the Neurological Foundation for the allocation of grants in collaboration with the Clinical Head of the Neurosurgical Department of Auckland Hospital.

 

Purpose

These grants are intended to promote and encourage the study and practice of neurosurgery, through funding to attend conferences, meetings, and training.

 

Scope

* Specialists working within the field of neurosurgery at approved research institutions in New Zealand or internationally

* Support to attend a conference or training course, or visit a laboratory or clinic for a specified purpose relevant to the study and practice of neurosurgery

 

Who can apply?

* Practicing clinicians and registrars in neurosurgery

* Non-medical specialists, including nurse specialists

$5,000

* Conference registration

* Economy Class Airfares

* Domestic transfers

* Accommodation

* Per diem costs

Process

1. Download an application form at www.neurological.org.nz/research/funding-opportunities/

1. Complete the application form, including signatures from your host institution. The budget requested should be in NZD. The Neurological Foundation will not award more than is requested in the budget

1. Supporting documentation:

1. Applications will be reviewed by the Neurosurgical Department of Auckland Hospital

1. Applicants will be advised of the outcome within one month of submission

1. Successful applicants will be informed of the conditions of the grant and asked for their formal acceptance of the funding contract

 

General Advice

Purpose

The Neurological Foundation’s purpose is to “Be a catalyst to improve the future quality of life for New Zealanders impacted by neurological conditions”.

Research contracts

Successful applicants will be offered contracts that outline the conditions of the grant, including the following:

* The host institution will administer the grant

* The grant will have a specific start date and end date

* A final report will be required within 3 months of the travel

* Any presentation material will acknowledge the Hackett Memorial Trust and the Foundation’s support
